An NDIS plan manager helps NDIS participants look after their funds. Plan managers take care of the financial parts of NDIS funding on behalf of the participants, and complete tasks such as invoice payments, budget management, expense tracking and forecasting, and providing financial statements.

NDIS Self-Managed vs Plan Managed

Self-managed NDIS plans are a popular option, as they allow participants to choose from registered and non-registered service providers. However, the administrative burden is high. Plan managed NDIS funds also allow participants to access registered and non-registered providers, with the administrative work done for you. NDIS plan management is fully funded in your plan separately by the NDIS so there is no additional cost for you.

How to Find an NDIS Plan Manager

The Provider Finder area of the NDIS participant portal is an excellent place to find an NDIS plan manager because the NDIS lists details of all registered providers. Asking friends, family, and colleagues is also a terrific option, as they will give you the added bonus of a personal review.

NDIS Agency Managed vs Plan Managed

When your funds are agency managed through the NDIA, they will pay service providers directly for you. This has the benefit of less administrative work for you, but it means you have less control over your NDIS funding. Having the NDIA manage your funding means you only get access to registered service providers. Plan managed NDIS funds are similar in that the administrative work is done for you, with the added benefit of being able to access both registered and non-registered services providers.
